The sum of N3, 535,150,000 ($8.5 million) has been sanctioned by President Muhammadu Buhari for the evacuation of Nigerians from Ukraine.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, declared this on Wednesday.
Farouk, who spoke to reporters shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting, said the funds would be used to remove at least 500 foreign nationals stranded in Ukraine.
This follows widespread outcry from Nigerians over the government’s refusal to evacuate Nigerian students and citizens following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week.
