BREAKING: Gunmen Invades Delta Community, Kills One, Injures Several Others Over Land Dispute -

Chukwuwike Alawo, a member of the Aboh-Ogwashi vigilante group, was shot and killed by gunmen in Ogwashi-Uku, Asaba, Delta State, on Monday morning, March 14.
The conflict happened between the Ogwashi-Uku village in Aniocha South Council Area and its neighbors, the Ibusa community in Aniocha North, both in Delta State.

The attackers stormed the Okwabani of Aboh-Ogwa Ogwashi’s (meeting hall) in three vehicles on Monday morning, March 14, and shot sporadically, according to reports.

“This morning (Monday), I got a call from the head of the vigilantes and chairman of land recovery that individuals arrived with a bulldozer to the jungle and the instant the gang spotted them, they fled,” Jude Obidi, the Okwabani of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, who corroborated the occurrence, said.

“He said the hoodlums left a bag with guns, which I instructed him to take to a police station,” I said. “Another call I received from them was that the people shot Chukwuwike dead. “On their route to the station, the hoodlums reinforced and came in three vehicles and started shooting indiscriminately. Nnamdi Nwaebonnor, the vigilantes’ leader, and many others were hurt.”

The act, according to Obidi, was a direct and unprovoked attack on his people.
DSP Bright Edafe, a spokesman for the State Police Command, confirmed the attack on the “Ogwa” and the death of the vigilante member, noting that an inquiry into the incident had begun.
