OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENCY, NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER, INEC, STAKEHOLDERS, NIGERIANS AND THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

RE: THE DANGEROUS DESPERATION OF THE ITSEKIRIS – FROM LIES TO VIOLENCE TO STOP WARD DELINEATION IN WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

To Whom It May Concern:

We are compelled to bring to your attention the disturbing events unfolding in Warri Federal Constituency. The Itsekiri people’s desperation to halt the constitutional ward delineation exercise has reached alarming levels, necessitating urgent intervention.

It has come to our notice that one Ajetsibogho Emami, who is a younger brother of Chief Ayiri Emami, a prominent Itsekiri leader, was apprehended in connection with a large-scale drug-smuggling operation. Photographic evidence confirms his involvement, which is believed to be linked to the illicit procurement of arms in Warri. This development raises serious concerns about the potential for violence and chaos, aimed at disrupting the ward delineation process.

Furthermore, we have been informed that a U.S. Army officer of Itsekiri origin, known as Miki Polo, closely associated with the Olu of Warri, was intercepted by the DSS in connection with illegal arms running. His alleged mission was to destabilize the peace in Warri, provoke crises, and plunge the region into bloodshed, thereby preventing INEC from implementing its constitutional mandate.

These incidents are not isolated, but rather, they form part of a larger pattern of coordinated criminality aimed at subverting democracy through fear, lies, and violence.

The Itsekiri narrative has consistently been one of manipulation, presenting themselves as victims while scheming as aggressors. They claim to be landlords, despite being welcomed into Warri by the indigenous Ijaw and Urhobo peoples. Their tactics include distorting history, contesting every land, hijacking colonial leases, and presenting forged documents as native titles.

The ward delineation exercise has exposed their tactics, and it is imperative that immediate action is taken to address this situation.

For too long, the Ijaws and Urhobos have been marginalized in their ancestral lands. The Itsekiri elite have manipulated ward allocations, empowering a privileged few at the expense of the majority. The delineation report corrects this imbalance, and it is this correction that they fear.

We urge the Presidency, National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police, Chief of Defence Staff, INEC, civil society groups, the judiciary, the United Nations, the African Union, ECOWAS, and all peace-loving Nigerians to take immediate notice of these actions.

We demand a full, transparent, and independent investigation into the arms trafficking, drug smuggling, and all acts of violence linked to the attempt to stop the ward delineation process in Warri. All individuals involved must be arrested, prosecuted, and held accountable.

We call on INEC to fulfill its constitutional duty without fear or favor, publishing the final delineation report immediately.

To the Federal Government and all democratic institutions, we emphasize that the Supreme Court has spoken, and the Constitution is clear: Warri must be returned to its demographic and political reality. No one tribe has a birthright to dominate others.

This is not merely a political issue; it is about peace, truth, and justice. We must expose those who claim to be victims but are, in fact, the architects of chaos. Warri belongs to all its indigenous peoples, not to those who build thrones on deceit.

We urge you to take immediate action to address this situation and ensure that justice is served.
