OPEN LETTER TO THE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT, THE NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER (NSA), AND THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICES (DSS)
On the Arrest of High-Profile Gunrunner and Recovery of Military-Grade Weapons in Delta State
13/9/2025
We, the peace-loving people of Warri and its environs, extend our profound appreciation to the Department of State Services (DSS), Delta State Command, for their swift and professional action in uncovering and arresting a dangerous arms dealer, from Maca Polo to the present incident, thereby saving countless lives. The recovery of seven (7) long-range GPMGs being ferried from Libya into Delta State is not just a victory for intelligence and vigilance, it is a decisive blow against the rising tide of criminality threatening peace and stability in our state.
We commend the DSS operatives whose bravery and commitment exposed this deadly network. Their success proves that peace is achievable only when the state acts decisively against those who trade in blood and chaos.
Our Concerns and Demands
While investigations are ongoing, we make the following firm demands in the interest of justice and public safety:
- Full Disclosure and Prosecution
Every individual, no matter their title, tribe or position, involved in this gunrunning syndicate must be identified, investigated and prosecuted publicly. The law must have no sacred cows. Those behind these weapons, financiers, transporters and political sponsors, must face the full wrath of the law. - Zero Tolerance for Political Protection
We urge the Delta State Government under His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure that this investigation is not compromised. This is not the time for silence or political caution. It is a time for truth, justice and leadership.
The people demand transparency and accountability, this is not a matter to be swept under the carpet. - Security Coordination and Intelligence Sharing
We call on the National Security Adviser (NSA) to strengthen coordination between the DSS, the Nigerian Police Force and the military to trace the full chain of this arms importation. A cache of weapons of this magnitude did not travel from Libya to Delta without collaboration. Let this investigation lead to every hidden hand behind the operation. - Protection of Peaceful Communities
The discovery of these arms validates earlier warnings from community leaders about plots to destabilize Warri and neighboring Ijaw and Urhobo areas. The Federal Government must now intensify protection for these peaceful communities and ensure that the arms are not part of a wider ethnic or political agenda.
To the Delta State Government
Your voice must be loud and clear.
Delta cannot afford another descent into violence. The people of Warri and beyond demand decisive leadership, not silence.
We expect you, as Chief Security Officer of the state, to follow this case to its logical conclusion and ensure that justice is not negotiated.
Our Final Word
The arrest of this gunrunner is a signal that the agents of violence are being exposed.
We call on all peace-loving Deltans to remain calm and vigilant, those who bring guns to destroy our communities will be destroyed by the truth.
Peace is not a privilege. It is a right. And the people of Delta will defend it with all their might.
