CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO THE NEW INEC CHAIRMAN, PROFESSOR JOASH OJO AMUPITAN, SAN

From the Concerned Ijaw Stakeholders of Warri Federal Constituency

We, the Concerned Ijaw Stakeholders of Warri Federal Constituency, extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, on his well-deserved appointment and swearing-in as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Your emergence comes at a critical juncture in Nigeria’s democratic journey, a time when citizens yearn deeply for fairness, justice and truth in the electoral process. Your distinguished career as a scholar and legal luminary assures the nation that integrity, courage and transparency can once again define INEC’s image.

However, sir, your first true test of integrity and impartial leadership lies in Warri Federal Constituency. The eyes of Nigerians and the international community are fixed on INEC’s unexplained delay in announcing the final ward delineation result, despite the clear and binding Supreme Court judgment in George Timinimi & Ors v. INEC (SC/CV/1033/2023) and after the fieldwork.

We urge you, Professor Amupitan, to act swiftly, to publish the final delineation result without further delay. This single action will send a powerful message that your tenure will not tolerate injustice or manipulation and that INEC under your watch will not be used as a tool of ethnic domination or political compromise.

No democracy thrives on silence. The Warri people have waited patiently but patience has a limit.
We therefore appeal and demand in the same breath that the Commission immediately complies with the Supreme Court’s directive. The future of trust in INEC depends on it.

We wish you divine wisdom, strength and courage to lead INEC back to the path of credibility and fairness that Nigeria so desperately needs.

Signed:

Chief, Tiemopere Joshua
(President)

Chief, Ebikeme T. God’stime
