OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, THE NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER,
THE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT,
AND THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC

DATE: 11 DECEMBER 2025

SUBJECT: THE GREATEST TRADITIONAL FRAUD IN SOUTHERN NIGERIA, THE ILLEGAL AND MISLEADING TITLE “OLU OF WARRI” MUST BE REVERTED TO ITS TRUE NAME, “OLU OF IWERE / OLU OF ITSEKIRI” NOW!

Mr. President,
Nigeria’s top security administrators,
Delta State Government,
And the Nigerian public,

We write with boiling anger, with a spirit disturbed by decades of historical manipulation and with a voice that refuses to be silenced any longer, to expose and condemn the continued use of the fraudulent title “Olu of Warri.”

What has been allowed to stand since 1952 is not just a mistake, it is a monumental fraud,
an institutionalised deception, a political ambush on the truth
and an insult to the indigenous peoples of Warri.

We say it clearly and Without fear: The title “Olu of Warri” is fake, fraudulent, misleading, historically false, territorially invalid and politically dangerous.

  1. WARRI IS NOT ONE KINGDOM, IT IS SEVEN. AND NONE IS SUBJECT TO THE OLU.

For too long, the Nigerian public has been fed a poisonous lie: that the Olu governs or owns Warri.

That lie ends today.

Warri comprises seven independent kingdoms, each with its own ancestral authority, its own historical identity and its own autonomy long before the Olu title was even conceived.

These kingdoms,
Ogbe-Ijoh, Gbaramatu, Egbema, Isaba, Diebiri, Okere-Urhobo, and Agbarha, were never subjects of any Itsekiri monarch, never bowed to an Olu and will never bow to one.

The Olu is a king of the Itsekiri people only. Let this truth echo across Nigeria.

  1. THE 1952 ALTERATION OF TITLE WAS A CALCULATED FRAUD, NOT TRADITION, NOT HISTORY

The colonial government did not consult the seven kingdoms. They did not hold a referendum. They did not seek cultural approval.

They simply bent to Itsekiri manipulation and changed the title from its true form,
“Olu of Iwere / Olu of Itsekiri” to the deceitful and expansionist “Olu of Warri.”

That singular act was a deliberate act of ethnic domination,
a calculated attempt to rewrite geography,
to stamp false ownership over territories that never belonged to them
and to deceive future governments into granting privileges built on falsehood.

1952 was the birth of the fraud. 2025 must be the death of it.

  1. THE OLU HAS ZERO AUTHORITY OUTSIDE ITSEKIRI LAND, STOP DECEIVING NIGERIA

We are tired, completely tired of watching this charade deceive the Nigerian public.

Let it be written and recorded today:

The Olu cannot summon any Ijaw kingdom.
The Olu cannot summon any Urhobo kingdom.
The Olu cannot govern any clan that is not Itsekiri. The Olu’s authority does NOT extend one inch beyond Itsekiri land.

But outside Warri, government officials and uninformed Nigerians are manipulated into believing the Olu speaks for all.

He does NOT.
He NEVER has.
He NEVER can.

This title is a costume, worn to deceive those far away from the truth.

  1. THE TITLE “OLU OF WARRI” HOLDS NO WATER, IT IS A POLITICAL BUBBLE WITH NO SUBSTANCE

Inside Warri, everybody knows better. Inside Warri, nobody obeys that title except the Itsekiris.
Inside Warri, even the Itsekiri elites know the truth but rely on the lie to exert influence they do not naturally possess.

The title is a balloon, powerful only when inflated by outsiders who do not know its emptiness.

It is a political amplifier without historical roots.
A sound without substance.
A crown without a legitimate domain.

Nigeria must stop endorsing this falsehood.

  1. WE DEMAND IMMEDIATE CORRECTION OF THE TITLE

We demand, not beg that the Nigerian State:

Officially revert the fraudulent title “Olu of Warri”

to its true, original, historically and culturally accurate form:

“OLU OF IWERE” OR “OLU OF ITSEKIRI.”

Nothing more.
Nothing less.
Nothing misleading.

This correction is not optional.
It is not debatable.
It is not subject to political negotiation.

It is a matter of historical justice,
territorial truth
and respect for the seven kingdoms of Warri.

  1. A FINAL WARNING: WE WILL NO LONGER SIT QUIETLY WHILE FALSEHOOD DOMINATES TRUTH

The days when lies overshadow truth are over. The days when titles built on political fraud dictate the identity of Warri are gone.

We refuse to allow the Nigerian State to continue validating a title that:

Destroys inter-ethnic peace

Misrepresents our territorial reality

Misleads national institutions

Robs indigenous kingdoms of their identity

Creates unnecessary supremacy claims

And fuels avoidable tension

If this title is not corrected, the deception will continue to fuel resentment and conflict. The government cannot claim to seek peace while legitimizing a historical lie and fraud.
