The Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) joined the international community on Monday, January 24, 2022, in celebrating this year’s World Education Day with a visit to Kokodiagbene Model Secondary School, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State in the Niger Delta and to Government Secondary School, Bwari in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEPEJ marked the event in line with the theme, \u201cChanging Course, Transforming Education” through activities that are conducted in line with the requirements of the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (SDG Goal 4) which dwells on quality education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During its visit to the schools, CEPEJ used the occasion to also strengthen its Peace and Environment Club impacts in the various schools hosting its PEC’s, and welcomed the revival of education given the huge gap in the year 2020-2021 academic session as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Coordinator of CEPEJ, Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade was represented by the Senior Programme Manager, Mr Sam Ideh in the Niger Delta, and by the Programme Director, Mrs Nafisat Abdulmalik, who led the Abuja team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Niger Delta, Chief Mulade stated that educational activities remained under-covered and were frozen by the wave of coronavirus which started in China resulting in the closure of all educational institutions across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Coordinator however expressed delight that there was a ray of hope as things are beginning to pick up, but stressed that \u201cour generation who suffered very much during the Covid-19 period has labeled itself as the Covid-19 generation” adding that the physical recovery from the pandemic \u201cis that we are back at our works, sound and healthy but mental recovery is only possible when our education may also be back on track which is the most vital thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing, he said education on the virus was important so as to avoid contacting it, as \u201cwe need to educate ourselves about health concerns and that of the whole community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Abuja, the National Coordinator whose message was conveyed by Mrs Abdulmalik, stressed the need for the students to actively engage in changing the course of taking the initiative to transform their own outcomes and to become positive impact makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Center urged the education stakeholders and parents and guardians to support and assist the school authority in providing quality education especially in the riverside and rural communities, as education remains the fundamental human rights and best legacy for every child and for everyone as “This will help to build a more sustainable, inclusive and peaceful future, and its importance must be redressed for the large benefits of our generation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highpoint of the school visits was the distribution of notebooks to students with a charge to them to be good ambassadors to the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
