Contrary to social media rumors, the pathologist detected no symptoms of chemical intoxication in the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sylvester Oromoni of Dowen College died of acute inflammatory pneumonia leading to severe sepsis, according to a consultant pathologist at the Central Hospital in Warri, Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Clement Vhriterhire, who performed the initial autopsy on late Sylvester Oromoni, testified before the coroner inquest into Oromoni’s death on Monday, March 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to inquiries from the Coroner, Mr Mikhail Kadiri, the pathologist testified on Monday before an Ikeja Coroner’s Court that, contrary to social media allegations, the dead showed no evidence of chemical intoxication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is the final autopsy report that I issued,” he stated. I married everything together when I had cooled down and inspected my microscopic slide in light of nothing notable from the toxicological.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I had acute inflammatory pneumonia due to severe sepsis in the absence of drug intoxication and diverse organs displaying inflammatory processes.” “This concludes my report.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Vhriterhire’s testimony matched that of Dr. Sokunle Soyemi, a pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja.
During cross-examination, Vhriterhire stated that he was handed coroner papers by the police on December 2, 2021, to perform a post-mortem on Sylvester’s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He claimed he was told the dead had been beaten prior to the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I anticipated to see clear proof of serious beating and injuries on the body as to the stated cause of death,” Vhriterhire added. Externally looking at the body, I did not detect any open injuries during my physical examination.
“I should have seen evidence of considerable bleeding in the abdominal cavity, but there were no symptoms of beating by the time I opened the cavities.”
When questioned if the victim’s father informed the pathologist about the nature of the beating before the autopsy, he said no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Your honour, I don’t recall receiving information about the youngster being beaten with any instrument,” he stated. I didn’t observe any signs of internal organ rupture.”
Coroner Mikhail Kadiri then asked Dr. Vhriterhire what he thought about the allegations that the youngster died as a result of a beating and chemical poisoning.
Some of the replies, Vhriterhire told the court, were not straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nothing will give validity to the notion that he died of chemical toxicity,” Vhriterhire continued. I didn’t notice any injuries that could have caused death. There is no proof of such seriousness to explain death.”
Vhriterhire indicated septic shock was a possible cause of death when being cross-examined by Dowen College lawyer, Mr Anthony Kpokpo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Femi Falana, the Oromoni family lawyer, then inquired about the bruise he noticed on the dead.
“When I looked at the back, there was this colour that may have been inflicted months ago,” he explained.
He agreed that a large dose of antibiotics, a blood transfusion, intravenous hydration, and other previous Dr. Soyemi recommendations could have saved the youngster.
The case was adjourned until March 15, 2022, by Magistrate Kadiri.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
