The National Commission for Colleges of Education announced that it would begin cracking down on unlawful educational institutions around the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, the Commission’s Executive Secretary, made the announcement in Abuja during a National Summit titled “Nigeria Certificate in Education: The Way Forward.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite ample human and material resources, declining student participation, according to Okwelle, contributed to the low capacity delivery encountered in institutions of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As part of our regulatory and monitoring responsibilities, we are confronted with the growth of illegal schools of education and study centers around the country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This matter was considered at the National Council on Education’s previous meeting in Jalingo, and as a result, we went on a special verification exercise,” Okwelle said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He went on to say that the goal of the operation was to find and shut down any unlawful institutions or NCE study centers that were operating in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At the conclusion of the exercise, we discovered the existence of some illegal institutions and study centers all over the country,” he said. “The reports have been harmonised and will be forwarded to the Minister of Education for consideration and further directive,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The executive secretary stated his commitment to regulating and overhauling the Nigeria Certificate in Education programs in a comprehensive manner, emphasizing the importance of high-quality education in all aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Okwelle, the commission has achieved significant milestones through accreditation programs, resource visits, and monitoring and inspection programs, all of which are critical to the overall quality of performance and development of educational institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have been keeping a careful eye on the aforementioned institutions on a regular basis as a means of enforcing standards, controlling quality, and even upgrading it through accreditation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A total of 22 education colleges have been accredited.” Before the end of the year, the exercise will be held at a number of other colleges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are revising our accrediting instrument to keep up with worldwide changes, particularly the demands of the digital society,” Okwelle assured.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
