the police stated.

The development comes weeks after SaharaReporters reported that the Nigerian government accused Oghenedoro, the publisher of SecretsReporters, of espionage and leaking government information to foreign governments.

Oghenedoro was subsequently summoned by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, directing him to appear over allegations of “espionage and computer-related matters.”

Oliver disclosed the invitation in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account in July 2026, describing the allegations as an unprecedented attempt to criminalise investigative journalism.

“I’m a spy. You read me right. The Nigerian Government has designated me a spy and, through the Nigerian Police, sent me a letter of invitation to appear before their Cybersecurity Crime Centre on allegations of ‘Espionage and computer-related matters,'” he wrote

He insisted that his only offence was practising investigative journalism through his media platform.

“My only offence is using investigative journalism through our platform of SecretsReporters to report news we feel underreported and maybe a few exclusives here and there,” Oghenedoro said.

He further alleged that the government accused him and his organisation of leaking classified information to foreign governments.

“The Nigerian state is accusing SecretsReporters and myself of leaking government information and also giving information to foreign governments, an allegation so heavy, which is obviously the first of its type against a journalist in modern days,” he stated.

Addressing the Inspector-General of Police, Oghenedoro maintained that he was not a criminal but a journalist carrying out public-interest reporting.

“Dear Tunji Disu, I am not a terrorist but a publisher. I have served Nigeria despite the country being ruthless to me and almost assassinating me through the same Nigerian Police Force under Egbetokun,” he wrote.

He added that the work of SecretsReporters and the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking had contributed to exposing wrongdoing in the country.

“Our works in SecretsReporters and Network Against Corruption and Trafficking have caused numerous changes in the country and should be given an award rather than branded as espionage.

“These works by the two organisations are purely self-funded by other businesses run by us, which deserve respect and applause.”

Oghenedoro demanded that the police withdraw the invitation and sanction those responsible for what he described as an abuse of power.

“For whatever intent it is, I demand that the letter should be withdrawn and those who instigated it be punished. Journalism is not a crime,” he said.

The espionage allegations drew concern from press freedom advocates, who argued that the increasing deployment of cybercrime-related laws against journalists under the administration of President Bola Tinubu could have a chilling effect on investigative reporting.

SaharaReporters also reported allegations by Oghenedoro that security operatives acting on the orders of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Deputy Governor for Operations, Ms Emem Nnanna Etuk Usoro, abducted SecretsReporters journalist Stanley Ugagbe over an investigative report involving the senior CBN official.

According to Oghenedoro, Ugagbe was seized by armed operatives shortly after returning from a training programme sponsored by the media organisation.

“The Nigerian security, acting on the orders of Ms Emem Nnanna Etuk Usoro, who is the CBN Deputy Governor in charge of operations, has abducted a reporter with SecretsReporters, Stanley Ugagbe, over a report on her being a side chic to Jerry Edirin and scattering her marriage according to the man’s wife’s court filings, as well as owning two homes worth over N4 billion in the US,” Oghenedoro had alleged.

The latest wanted declaration added to a series of legal actions by the police against Oghenedoro, who has consistently maintained that the cases against him are reprisals for his investigative reporting.

By Freeborn Abraye According to the police bulletin, Oghenedoro is being wanted in connection with…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

BREAKING: Serial Blackmailer And Peddler Of False News Fejiro Oliver Declared Wanted By Nigerian Police Over Cyberstalking, Defamation
[13
1938,1939
post-5742","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-breaking-serial-blackmailer-and-peddler-of-false-news-fejiro-oliver-declared-wanted-by-nigerian-police-over-cyberstalking","tag-defamation
https://coastaltimes.com.ng/index.php/2026/09/30/breaking-serial-blackmailer-and-loyalist-of-boyloaf-daniel-perela-ezekiel-remanded-in-kuje-prison/
By Freeborn Abraye The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has remanded Perela Ezekiel Osia a.k.a.
