{"id":5806,"date":"2026-10-04T16:23:42","date_gmt":"2026-10-04T16:23:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coastaltimes.com.ng\/index.php\/2026\/10\/04\/group-faults-federal-lawmaker-thomas-eriyetomi-over-warri-port-upgrade-claims\/"},"modified":"2026-10-04T17:22:51","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T17:22:51","slug":"group-faults-federal-lawmaker-thomas-eriyetomi-over-warri-port-upgrade-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coastaltimes.com.ng\/index.php\/2026\/10\/04\/group-faults-federal-lawmaker-thomas-eriyetomi-over-warri-port-upgrade-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Group Faults Federal Lawmaker Thomas Ereyitomi Over Warri Port Upgrade Claims"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Freeborn Abraye<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Members of the Niger Delta Rights Watch, (NDRW) composed of scholars have criticised the incumbent lawmaker, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, over a full-page advertorial published in Vanguard newspaper on October 2, 2026, concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s approval of the upgrade of Warri Port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group accused Ereyitomi of giving the public a misleading impression about the roles played by various stakeholders in the campaign for the modernization of Warri Port, alleging that the lawmaker\u2019s publication appeared to take undue credit for the development for a cheap political scorecard ahead of the 2027 general election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a press statement issued on Sunday and signed by the National President Mr. Cletus Opukeme, the group said it had no objection to Ereyitomi congratulating President Tinubu on the approval but expressed concern over what it described as an attempt to overlook the collective efforts of other stakeholders to achieve &#8221;a cheap political scorecard ahead of 2027 general election. &#8216;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to them \u201cWe are not worried that Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, as a respected federal lawmaker representing Warri Federal Constituency, is congratulating Mr. President on the approval of the Warri Port upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur concern borders on the publication, which, in our view, could mislead the public by giving the impression that the achievement should be attributed to one individual. To set the record straight, the approval for the modernisation of Warri Port represents the collective efforts of well-meaning Deltans, particularly leaders, traditional rulers and other critical opinion leaders of Niger Delta region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group urged the incumbent lawmaker to acknowledge the contributions of other individuals and groups who had advocated for the revitalisation of Warri Port over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe respect the views of the federal lawmaker, but we believe that the facts surrounding Warri Port should be presented fairly and objectively.
