National Assembly <\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Country Director and CEO of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade has commended the National Assembly for rescinding its earlier resolution against the electronic transmission of election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following public outcry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comrade Mulade, a notable environmentalist in the Niger Delta Region, gave the commendation in Abuja on Tuesday 12th October, 2021, while speaking with newsmen on the National Assembly’s new position on the issue, describing it as the best thing that has happened in the history of Nigeria’s democracy in recent times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He recalled that the public had mounted pressure on the Senate to rescind its decision against the unfettered electronic transmission of election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC where and when practicable. He said it shows that the National Assembly respects the opinion of the electorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the independence of INEC, Chief Mulade, who is the Ibe-Seremowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West LGA of Delta State, urged the Presidency, the National Assembly, political parties and politicians not to interfere with the electoral processes of voting, and the electronic transmission of election results by INEC where practicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also charged political parties to adopt direct primaries for all elective positions, towards achieving free and fair election of candidates into political offices, for effective governance and sustainable development in Nigeria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
