The National Coordinator of the Niger Delta Advocates For Peace, Development And Economic Justice (NDAPDEJ), Comrade Freeborn Abraye, has launched a blistering challenge to Egbema leaders over what he described as their “deafening silence and inexplicable inaction” concerning the repeated allegations and public attacks attributed to Daniel Perela Ezekiel against prominent Niger Delta personalities.

Abraye said the continued silence of Egbema leaders, despite what he described as a sustained pattern of abuse, blackmail and allegations leveled against High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, High Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, High Chief Engr. Kestin Pondi, High Chief Godfrey Pondi and other Gbaramatu leaders, is increasingly raising questions about whether some individuals within the Egbema leadership structure are sympathetic to, encouraging, or otherwise enabling Daniel Perela Ezekiel activities, and Barr. Napoleon Egin who made false claims of being kidnapped by Tompolo.

According to him, silence in the face of misconduct cannot indefinitely be interpreted as neutrality.

“If Daniel Perela Ezekiel is acting alone, then the Egbema leadership should have the courage to publicly dissociate itself from his conducts and call him to order. If they genuinely disagree with his methods, let them say so openly and unequivocally. But if they continue to watch silently while these allegations and attacks persist, we will consider their silence and inaction as complicity and guilt.”

Abraye declared that NDAPDEJ would no longer sit quietly while individuals deploy inflammatory statements, accusations and blackmail against the Gbaramatu leaders who are respected Niger Delta stakeholders without presenting credible evidence.

He stressed that freedom of expression is not a licence to manufacture allegations, destroy reputations or weaponise ethnic and communal sentiments against individuals.

“Nobody is above scrutiny, but neither should anybody be subjected to trial by social media, fabricated narratives or politically motivated accusations.

The NDAPDEJ National Coordinator further challenged those supporting Ezekiel to come into the open instead of operating from the shadows.

“Enough of hiding behind Daniel Perela Ezekiel. If there are powerful individuals sponsoring or encouraging this campaign, let them come out and identify themselves. The era of using another person as a proxy to settle political, ethnic or personal scores against Gbaramatu leaders must end.”

Abraye maintained that the allegations being circulated against High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo ( Tompolo ), Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, High Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, High Chief Engr. Kestin Pondi, High Chief Godfrey Pondi and others should be subjected to evidence, investigation and due process, rather than being presented to the public as established facts.

He warned that repeated unsubstantiated accusations have the potential to deepen mistrust among communities and kingdoms and create unnecessary tension.

“We will not allow reckless allegations to become a substitute for evidence.“

Abraye also called on the Egbema leaders to publicly clarify their position.

“The question before the Egbema leadership is simple: Do you support these attacks or do you reject them? If you reject them, say so. If Daniel Perela Ezekiel has crossed the line, call him to order. Leadership requires courage, especially when someone from your community or kingdom is accused of conducts capable of damaging relationships with neighbouring communities and kingdoms.”

He emphasized that his intervention was not an attempt to suppress criticism or shield any individual from legitimate investigation.

“Let me be absolutely clear: NDAPDEJ does not oppose legitimate criticism. We oppose falsehood, intimidation, character assassination and allegations presented without credible evidence.”

He concluded by declaring that NDAPDEJ would continue to monitor the situation and respond vigorously to what it considers defamatory, malicious or deliberately misleading narratives against the Gbaramatu Leaders.

“We are watching. We are documenting. We are asking questions. And where necessary, we will demand accountability through lawful and legitimate channels. Those who believe that they can operate through proxies, hide behind silence and continue attacking people without consequences should think again.”
