The National Coordinator of the Niger Delta Advocates For Peace, Development And Economic Justice (NDAPDEJ), Comrade Freeborn Abraye, has raised the alarm over what he described as a dangerous and disturbing development capable of further undermining security, public confidence, and democratic accountability in Delta State.

Abraye stated that recent allegations involving Mr. Junior Sheriff Oborevwori (Fred), son of the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, have generated widespread concern among citizens who are already grappling with rising insecurity, youth violence, cult-related activities, and growing political tension across the state.

According to Abraye, the allegations, if proven to be true, represent one of the most disturbing examples of abuse of political influence and betrayal of public trust in recent times.

“The people of Delta State are asking a simple question: How can Governor Sheriff Oborevwori claim to be fighting insecurity when is Son is seen patronizing the very elements who are responsible for the insecurity in the State.

Associating and supporting persons known for contributing to instability, division, and violence within the State is nothing but a clear display of negligence for the safety and wellbeing of Deltans?”

Abraye expressed concern over allegations of the Governor’s Son, Junior Sheriff Oborevwori (Fred), buying a car for Yemi Otuedon, a known criminal and cultist who has contributed immensely to the rising insecurity, instability, division, cult related Killings, youths violence and ethnic tension in Warri Federal Constituency.

This Same Yemi Otuedon has repeatedly promoted ethnic hostility among Ijaws, Itsekiris, and Urhobos, escalating tensions, spreading inflammatory narratives, and launching attacks against respected Niger Delta leaders and stakeholders.

According to Abraye, the purchase of a car for Yemi Otuedon by Junior Sheriff Oborevwori clearly indicates that he Junior Sheriff Oborevwori has been the very individual instigating Yemi Otuedon to abuse and blackmail critical Stakeholders both in Delta State and the Niger Delta. Who have contributed immensely to peace-building, security enhancement, and economic stability in the State and the Niger Delta region at large.

Abraye further stated that allegations suggesting the use of public resources or political influence to fund criminal elements in the State demands immediate and transparent scrutiny.

“Delta State belongs to the people, not to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his family. Junior Sheriff Oborevwori should know that taxpayers money is not a personal inheritance. Rather, these resources are meant for the building of schools, hospitals, construction of roads, bridges, job creation, youth empowerment, and economic development, and not for the Governor’s Son to patronage criminal networks.”

He warned that any perception that politically connected individuals can operate above the law would send a dangerous message to young people across the state.

“Nothing destroys public confidence faster than the belief that there is one law for ordinary citizens and another law for the powerful. Democracy cannot flourish where accountability is selective and justice is influenced by status or family connections.”

The NDAPDEJ National Coordinator therefore called on the Delta State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force Delta State Command, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and other relevant security agencies to immediately launch an independent investigation into these allegations leveled against the Son of the Governor of the State, Mr. Junior Sheriff Oborevwori and make their findings public.

Abraye stressed that the credibility of state institutions depends on their willingness to investigate anyone, regardless of political influence.

“The era when powerful families could hide behind political office to avoid public scrutiny must come to an end. If these allegations are false, let a transparent investigation clear the air. If there is evidence of wrongdoing, the law must take its course without fear or favour.”

He also called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to publicly address the concerns and demonstrate leadership by supporting an impartial investigation.

“The Governor has a constitutional and moral responsibility to reassure Deltans that no member of his family enjoys immunity from accountability. Silence is not an option. The people deserve answers.”

Abraye concluded by warning that failure to address the allegations decisively could further weaken public trust and deepen political dissatisfaction across Delta State.

“Delta State cannot move forward while questions of accountability remain unanswered. The people are watching. The Niger Delta is watching. Nigerians are watching. This is a defining moment for governance, transparency, and the rule of law in Delta State.”
