The National Coordinator of Niger Delta Advocates For Peace, Development And Economic Justice (NDAPDEJ) Comrade Freeborn Abraye has called on the relevant security agencies to immediately investigate and arrest Ayiri Emami, Robinson Ariyo, A.S. Mene and Alex Eyengho over what he describes as dangerous statements and actions capable of inflaming ethnic tension and undermining the fragile peace among the Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri peoples of Warri Federal Constituency.
It is unacceptable that, after years of disputes and interventions aimed at achieving lasting peace, Ayiri Emami and his group of warmongers would continue to make statements and declarations capable of reopening old wounds, threatening peaceful coexistence and creating unnecessary hostility among the ethnic groups that have shared the Warri environment for generations.
The position being advanced by Ayiri Emami and his army of miscreants, particularly the denial of the existence of the Ijaws of Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South Local Government Area, is not only provocative but also contrary to the findings contained in the INEC Warri Federal Constituency Delineation report, which acknowledged the presence of Ijaw communities within Warri South local government area.
Beyond the INEC report, historical records, legal documents, pre-colonial and post-colonial official materials have consistently reflected the presence and identity of the Ogbe-Ijoh people in Warri South Local Government Area. Therefore, attempts to erase or deny the identity and existence of the Ogbe-Ijoh people through public declarations are actions capable of provoking unnecessary conflict and should not be tolerated.
He also reminded all stakeholders that the Presidency had already intervened in the Warri Federal Constituency delineation matter by engaging representatives of the three ethnic groups in Abuja, and proposing a political solution aimed at ensuring fairness, justice and peaceful coexistence.
Following that intervention, stakeholders reportedly accepted the proposed framework, which included equitable rotation of political positions among the three ethnic groups across the constituency, and a Memorandum of Understanding was subsequently signed at the office of the National Security Adviser as directed by the president.
Therefore, the actions of Mr. Ayiri Emami, Alex Eyengho, Robinson Ariyo, A.S Mene and other Itsekiri leaders are capable of undermining that peace arrangement, disregarding the spirit of the agreement, and inciting one ethnic group against another, as such must be viewed with utmost seriousness by the security agencies.
The NDAPDEJ National Coordinator strongly warns that nobody, regardless of status, influence or political connections, should be allowed to threaten the peace and stability of Warri Federal Constituency. Stating that the era where ethnic sentiments are weaponised for political advantage is long gone.
He then called on the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to urgently investigate and arrest Mr. Ayiri Emami and his league of warmongers for making statements and declarations that are capable of triggering ethnic unrest in Warri Federal Constituency.
“Peace in Warri is bigger than any individual ambition. As such no person or group should be permitted to drag the people of the Niger Delta into another cycle of division and conflict”.___Says Abraye
