INEC’S SABOTAGE OF DEMOCRACY IN WARRI, A FINAL WARNING TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, NSA AND THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC
We, the Warri Federal Constituency Youths of Progressive Mandate, write in a state of uncontrollable rage, a rage born from decades of injustice and now inflamed by INEC’s deliberate betrayal of constitutional order and Supreme Court authority. Today, we put the Federal Government, the National Security Adviser and the entire Nigerian public on notice: INEC is committing a constitutional crime against our people and this wicked silence over the final delineation result is pushing Warri towards a point of no return.
INEC has shamelessly violated Section 14(2)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates that “the participation by the people in their government shall be ensured.” How can participation be ensured when INEC is actively suppressing the very delineation that determines representation? How can democracy exist where truth is locked away? INEC has reduced itself to a weapon of oppression, stripping Warri Federal Constituency of its constitutional right to fair representation.
We remind INEC that the Supreme Court of Nigeria, in SC/CV/1033/2022 (Hon. George Timinimi & Ors v. INEC) delivered a binding judgment ordering INEC to conclude the delineation exercise without delay. The Constitution is clear under Section 287(1):
“The decisions of the Supreme Court shall be enforced in every part of the Federation by all authorities and persons.” But INEC, in its newfound arrogance, has placed itself ABOVE the Supreme Court, ABOVE the Constitution and ABOVE the Nigerian people. This is not incompetence. This is not bureaucracy. This is treason against democratic governance.
INEC officials walked through our communities. They counted our populations. They saw the overwhelming demographic truth. They documented what manipulative hands have been hiding for decades. And now, instead of announcing the truth as required by law, they have gone into cowardly silence, a silence soaked in conspiracy, influenced by desperate minorities who fear what the truth will expose. INEC has become an enemy of justice, an enemy of peace and an enemy of Warri.
We declare openly: INEC’s refusal to announce the final delineation result is unconstitutional, illegal, provocative and dangerous. By suppressing the truth, INEC is violating Section 36(1) on fair hearing, Section 42 on freedom from discrimination and Section 13 which obligates all authorities to uphold the Constitution. INEC is not upholding the Constitution, they are tearing it apart.
At a time when Nigeria is bleeding from every corner, insecurity in the North, economic collapse, tensions in the Middle Belt, oil theft in the South, INEC has chosen to manufacture a new crisis in Warri. This irresponsibility is not just insulting; it is a threat to national security. Warri is volatile, historically sensitive and politically delicate. Those who know Warri understand that injustice here does not remain quiet, it erupts. And INEC is planting the exact seed that has triggered crises in the past.
Let it be clear: the youths of Warri are not afraid. We are only tired of the foolishness of institutions that think they can suppress us forever. INEC cannot continue to play God. They cannot decide which truth to release and which to hide. They cannot pretend that Warri will swallow injustice again. The era of silence is gone. The era of manipulation is dead. And anyone, individual or institution, who thinks Warri will sit and watch this illegality continue is dreaming.
We are warning today with the full weight of constitutional backing and Supreme Court authority behind us: Announce the Final Ward Delineation Result NOW. Every additional hour of delay is a reckless provocation. Every day of silence is an invitation to chaos. Every refusal to obey the Supreme Court is an attack on national stability.
INEC should understand that no election activity, including CVR, will be allowed in Warri Federal Constituency until the final delineation result is announced. We will not be governed by fraud. We will not participate in elections built on illegality. We will not accept a process founded on lies and protected by silence.
If INEC believes its mandate is to protect lies instead of promoting democracy, it has failed. If INEC believes Warri will bow to intimidation, they have misjudged us. And if INEC believes this injustice will not have consequences, they are playing with fire at a time Nigeria cannot afford another crisis.
We call on the Federal Government and the NSA to intervene immediately before INEC plunges Warri into avoidable crisis. Nigeria cannot afford another conflict and the responsibility will rest squarely on INEC if the thin line of peace snaps because of their illegal suppression of the truth.
The Constitution has spoken.
The Supreme Court has spoken.
Warri has spoken.
Now INEC must speak by announcing the final delineation result without further delay.
Signed,
